LAMINITIS FACTS
by Lisa St. John

Laminitis has become more and more common in our horses today.  Many "experts" have come to the conclusion that the main cause, of this unfortunate condition, is the sugar content found in grass, along with anything nature has to offer, including carrots and apples.

I have found that this is NOT TRUE. I have designed a nutrition therapy program which has succeeded in helping many horses to recover from this disease. I will explain to you my theory which is backed up by proven case studies and veterinarian confirmation.

Horses have evolved over thousands of years to consume raw vegetation... including grass.  Horses, as science has described them, are herbivores.  Definition of herbivore is "an animal that is designed to eat plants and survive solely on tough plant matter."

To function properly, their metabolic requirements include enzyme enriched plant life. These enzymes provide cell reproduction, enables red blood cells to transport carbon dioxide from tissues to lungs, completely supports the metabolic system.

To simplify -
~ Enzymes are the Life Giving Force for the Body ~
Today horses are kept in artificial environments and confined to limited areas. We are unable to provide our horses with hundreds of acres filled with a healthy variety of vegetation for them to graze upon, in order to meet all of their metabolic requirements and natural detoxification elements. The alternative being; horse feeds, grains and supplements.

Nature and all it holds, can not be identically duplicated by man made supplements.  Horses only digest 30% of grains consumed; so how good can that possibly be for them? Then there are pellets, processed horse feeds and supplements, which again are chemically and artificially manufactured. "Natural" is a word thrown about too casually, in my opinion, to describe feeds and supplements.

If it is processed or chemically manufactured... it is NOT NATURAL.  Laminits is a fungus. Fungus grows freely in a body when the body is immune deficient and unable to fight and kill the invaders. A growing population of fungus causes degenerative diseases (as do parasites; however, Laminitis is fungus based).

When horses are being fed artificially and then allowed out to graze in the spring time, their bodies are finally being fed the required enzyme enriched vegetation in order to function properly. The immune system kicks in allowing the metabolic structure to react in an attempt to heal itself, which is what nature designed the body to do. The fungus in the system, which has multiplied, due to artificial feeding programs, is now being forced out through the hooves.

The most misunderstood natural occurrence, is an actual healing process. This process is always misdiagnosed as a "symptom of illness" that must be suppressed. Symptom control procedures are provided.

When the body is attempting to heal itself from the invaders, it goes through a detoxification process which includes symptoms. The body, when given the proper nutrients, is able to kill, neutralize, transform, and eliminate the toxic invaders. The elimination process means these toxins must leave the body, thus creating healing symptoms, or a "clearing" as I like to refer them as.

Ironically, what is causing the laminitis is the lack of enzyme enriched natural foods. Horses, at the advise of many "experts", are taken off grass immediately. Grass, being the one healthy nutrient they were consuming which was strengthening their immune system and attempting to heal their bodies. This process is now being replaced by an artificial program involving medications to stop the symptom (healing process) thus allowing the laminits and fungus to continue to multiply and grow. Many conventional experts believe that no more symptoms means no more illness.

Unfortunately, it will only be a matter of time before those horses develop degenerative diseases such as arthritis and cushings, and the laminitis will now become a chronic condition. This is because the fungus was suppressed back into the body, not allowing it to clear out.  By feeding your horses fresh produce and herbs is a perfect way to provide your horses with a truly natural diet.

Feed your horses Yams, Carrots, Apples, Avocados, Banana, Fresh greens, sprouts, and wheat grass. This mix of fresh fruits and veggies will provide your horses with joint support, digestive enzymes, electrolytes, protein, metabolic requirements, muscle tone, strong immune system, strong healthy hooves, anti-cancer hormones, and cell reproduction not to mention improved stamina. Fresh whole foods will also rebuild the destroyed cell tissues and allow the body to reform and strengthen.

Herbs are also required and are the key to ensuring optimum health and healing.
Herbal combinations have been used in every culture since the beginning of time. They are designed to clear the body of fungal, parasitic, and bacterial invaders which attack the body causing degenerative diseases, chronic illnesses, viruses as well as weakening the body, allowing the horses to become susceptible to injury.

However the technique in providing your horse with the correct combination of herbs for metabiolic structure, is unique for each individual horse.

It has been my experience, while helping horses to recover from degenerative diseases, injuries and chronic illnesses, that although I am working with the same condition, each horse is different. Since their metabolic environment is unique, a customized combination of fresh whole foods and herbal blends are required. These blends need to change periodically as the body heals.

I also recommend and provide my clients with periodic cleanses which target and assist the body in it's healing process. These herbs are added separately and in accordance to the program which I have designed for each horse.

A horse already considered healthy, benefits greatly from this program and has the greatest advantage of defense against viruses and degenerative diseases.

You will notice a difference in your horse, once on my program within 2 weeks.
